Welcome to the first of many installments of the 500 Club. This is where you can kick off the droll of monotonous writing and shake things up a bit. Kick your creative hornet’s nest and see what happens. If you’d like to read more about it, check out the 500 Club page on the right or click here.
Before we start, let’s lay down the ground rules.
1. Choose one of the following prompts to write from. ONLY ONE. There are no extra points for writing both prompts. In fact, there are no points at all.
2. From that single prompt, write 500 words. Don’t over-think this. Just go with the first thing that comes to mind. This isn’t a competition. The only thing you can get is a pat on the back (as long as you’re the one doing the patting as well).
3. In the comments section, give us the first few lines of what you came up with. Then include a link to your personal site so everyone can read the full text there(by full text, I mean 500 words). We would also appreciate a link back to our site here so everyone will know where and why you wrote it.
So without further ado, the prompts:
Close At Hand: I’m going to pick three things that are sitting close to me. It’s your job to connect those three items in a scene.
-An empty water bottle.
-A tape measure.
-An airbag.
———- OR ———-
Missing: Write a scene involving an object or person and another object or person that should be there but isn’t.

Here’s what I came up with using the Close At Hand prompt:
“You just don’t drink another man’s water.”
Chase threw the empty water bottle across the warehouse. Well, as far as an empty water bottle will be thrown anyway. This was the third time this week he’s came back to his desk to find the water he’s been craving from working his ass off all morning drained. [more...]
So there you have it. If you’d like to read the full 500, you can do so at my personal site using the “more” link above. Now let’s see what you can come up with. Next week another of my fellow Confessioners will lead us in another 500 Club.
Until then, remember to have fun.
