How Will You Respond?
I’m supposed to be posting about writing, but instead I’m reading the news out of Norway.
And I’m angry.
I could express that anger here, say a lot of hateful things about those who planned and carried out the horrific attacks.
But that’s the tricky thing about hate. It’s like a hungry fire, always looking for fuel. It’ll burn up your soul if you let it.
This is a blog about writing. About creativity and inspiration.
Cre•ate (verb /krēˈāt/) 1. Bring (something) into existence; 2. Cause (something) to happen as a result of one’s actions
In•spire (verb /inˈspīr/) 1. Fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, esp. to do something creative; 2. Create (a feeling, esp. a positive one) in a person
In this crazy world, I’m absolutely convinced of a number of things. Two of them are:
- Creativity matters, and creative people have the power to bring about change
- Love far outweighs all of the fear and hate in this world combined
The way I see it, I can either respond to today’s news with fear and anger, both of which lead to hate (Yoda was a smart little dude). Or I can respond by pouring out my heart in love, helping others, serving others, and doing what I can to inspire positive change on the world around me.
Tough choice, right?
But it is a choice.
Therefore. I will not give in to fear. I will not give in to hate. I will continue seeking to create and inspire and I will continue to seek out those who create and inspire. I will make it my work to bring beauty into existence. I will help those who hurt and I will bring light to those in the dark. And most of all, I will love.
How will you respond?
