500 Club (7/26)

Happy Thursday, everybody! I hope you’re in the mood to challenge yourselves, because I feel like challenging you! Let’s stretch our writing muscles and try something a little different.

There are actually three prompts today; one super prompt, with the two smaller prompts being conditions of the first. Have I made this complicated enough yet? Well, hang onto your hats. But first, rules.

  1. Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below.
  2. Post it to your blog.
  3. Hook us with the first line or two by pasting it in the comments below along with a link back to the rest of your story.

SUPER PROMPT: Someone comes to town, someone leaves town. Both of today’s prompts are about running away, or coming home. Breaking out of jail, or being incarcerated. Falling out of love or into it. First day of school, or graduation. A birth, or a death. Pick one that sparks you, and get ready for the catch.

Prompt One: Ten words or less. Write a scene of leave-taking or homecoming that contains ten words or less of dialogue. Be cinematic.

Prompt Two: A hundred words or less. Write a scene of leave-taking or homecoming that contains a hundred words or less of exposition, unfurling the story through the dialogue.

Good luck, have fun, and a respectful, you’re-alright-by-me-kid head nod to the writers who pull this one off!
