500 Club (8/23)
Summer time is finally coming to a close. The kids are back in school, the summer storms are drying up, and soon enough the leaves will be changing colors. Although here in the heart of the desert, the heat won’t let up for another couple of months. Hopefully the changing of the seasons has brought you some spare time. If so, I have the perfect way to spend some of it.
Here’s what to do:
- Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below.
- Post it to your blog.
- Give us a small taste in the comments below along with a link to the full text.
On to the prompts.
1. Make the Connection: Often times we relate the unknown to the known, the abstract to the concrete, so as to create understanding for our readers. In 500 words connect one of these two pairs: candle to success or potted plant to justice. Try not to go for the obvious link if there is one.
2. Character Creation: Our view of a character can be made many ways. One is see how the character views someone else. In 500 words create a character by having that character describe something or someone else. Remember, the object is to get an idea of the view-point character, not so much as who or what they’re describing.
