500 Club (5.2.13)
The longest day of the year is just around the corner, and already my shoes will melt to the pavement if I stand in one place for too long. In another month I won’t have to stand still to melt them. So I’m beating the heat by staying indoors and cranking out some flash fiction. To make it interesting, here are a few prompts to get you going.
How it works:
- Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below.
- Post it to your blog.
- Give us a small taste in the comments below along with a link to the full text.
On to the prompts.
1. Wake in a Strange Place: Have your character wake up in a place other than where he or she went to sleep at. Think about how to convey the confusion without losing your reader, and do it in 500 words.
2. The Interview: Write 500 words based on an interview where the interviewee desperately wants the job, but not for the obvious reasons of money, employment, or career path.
As always, throw out the obvious. Embrace your creativity and try something new. And above all, have fun with it.
