500 Club (7.25.13)
I’m feeling the urge to shake things up a bit. Usually the prompts I post up focus on content, the story at hand. This time I want to look at structure, how the construction of the words can add nuance and voice.
Same rules apply:
- Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below.
- Post it to your blog.
- Give us a small taste in the comments below along with a link to the full text.
On to the prompts.
1. The Short: Write 500 words using only short sentences. Then somewhere in the story (front, middle, end, doesn’t matter) write one really long sentence (my personal best was over a hundred words).
2. The Long: Write 500 words using only long sentences. Can you do it in seven, six? Maybe five? Then somewhere in the story (front, middle, end, doesn’t matter) write a burst of short sentences.
As always, throw out the obvious. Embrace your creativity and try something new. And above all, have fun with it.
