500 Club (2.20.14)

Hello Thursday!

It’s all about perception. How you look at the day, is ultimately how the day will go for you. Want to look at it with a pessimistic eye? Get ready for a less than stellar day. Optimism overfilling your cup? Get ready to rule the world. This week I’m throwing a challenge at you. Explore where this takes you.

Here’s how:

  1. Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below.
  2. Post it to your blog.
  3. Give us a small taste in the comments below along with a link to the full text.

On to the prompts.

1. Nay Sayers: Write a “happy” scene like a birthday party, a home-coming, or the like. Now throw in a negative word (no, nor, neither, never, not, can’t, don’t, etc.) as often as you can. See what it does, how it changes the feel.

2. Affirmative: Write a “sad” scene like a funeral, a parting-of-ways, or the like. Now keep from adding any negative words (no, nor, neither, never, not, can’t, don’t, etc.). This might be harder than it sounds. How does this shape the scene?

As always, throw out the obvious. Embrace your creativity and try something new. And above all, have fun with it.
