500 Club (4/7/11)

Welcome to Thursday. Please make sure all remnants of Wednesday are left behind, and refrain from calling on Friday too early. Today we gather to squeeze the creativity out in tiny 500 word helpings.

We’re going to tackle classic, if not overused opening lines. While one might be an opening no-no, the other transports us to a particular time and land in as little as four words. Let’s see if we can add our own special twists them, but first…

The rules:

  1. Write 500 words based on one of the two prompts below. I doubt you’ll be able to use both this week. Feel free to try to prove me wrong.
  2. Post it to your blog.
  3. Give us a small taste in the comments below along with a link to the full text.

Take a minute to stretch your creative muscle. I want no injuries this week. Now take one of these opening lines and show me something different.

1. Once upon a time…

2. It was a dark and stormy night.
