It’s Thursday! Ready to play?
Today’s 500 Club prompts are brought to you by the S.
But before we get to those, let’s review the directions.
- Choose a prompt.
- Write 500 words in response to the prompt.
- Post your prose to your blog
- Paste the first line or so in the comments below and include a link where we can go read the rest of your story.
-OR-
If you don’t have a blog, copy and paste your 500 words into our shmidgedy-widget over there on the right.
All set? Here we go!
Prompt #1: Simple
Write a scene that seems simple on its surface, but hints at something sinister swimming beneath. Subtlety is key.
Prompt #2: Surprise
Write a scene that seems to send us in one direction, but switches up in a surprising way. Don’t go for the cheap joke, though. Again, subtlety is key.
Have fun!

“One cannot afford to make mistakes in my line of work. There is a good chance you won’t be afforded the opportunity to correct them. That fact, combined with the reality that I am a proud perfectionist, means I should have known better.” Read more…
“The smell was intoxicating. I couldn’t think of anything else. It wafted up my nose and sent every cell in my body into a tizzy. My weak muscles longed for it, my empty stomach urged me to find it, and my hungry brain was having trouble rationalizing why I shouldn’t.”
